Hey there! Welcome to Sandhills Custom Woodworking.
I’m Brandon, the owner and maker behind Sandhills Custom Woodworking. I’ve been hooked on the craft ever since I picked up my first piece of scrap wood and turned it into something useful. I love working with my hands and seeing a project through from start to finish.
I grew up building small things with my dad, like birdhouses. I knew some of the basic tools, the table saw, miter saw, and drill, but that was about it. We didn’t have much growing up, so we had to do a lot of things ourselves and find ways to fix problems on our own.
Fast forward to 2023, that’s when everything really changed. My friend Chad had a huge project for a new restaurant coming to town. He was building the bar top, the back of the bar, trim around the restaurant, built-in seating for some of the tables, and two feature walls made just for the space. His son had been helping him over the summer, but once his son left for college, Chad needed an extra hand to finish things up and move everything to the restaurant for installation.
I told Chad I’d be happy to help, but I was upfront that I didn’t know much. I even told him that if it didn’t work out, he could “fire” me and it wouldn’t hurt my feelings. He laughed, agreed, and started showing me what needed to be done. That was my first real step into a woodworking world I never knew existed.
A few months later, we wrapped up the restaurant project, and Chad told me he was impressed by how quickly I picked things up. As a thank-you, he offered to walk me through a project of my own. My wife owns a cupcakery in downtown Pinehurst and needed a new bar top, so Chad donated some extra lumber and let me use his shop to build it. That project sparked something in me and that’s how Sandhills Custom Woodworking was born.
What started out as a helping a friend turned into a hobby has slowly grew into a real passion for creating pieces that tell a story from custom furniture to small projects that make everyday life a little better. I enjoy taking rough-cut lumber and turning it into something special.
I started this site to share my portfolio, track my progress, give a glimpse into what happens in the shop, and connect with others who enjoy working with their hands. Have a look around and check out the projects, I hope you enjoy them as much as I’ve enjoyed making them.
I didn’t start off with a lot of tools. I started with a table saw, miter saw, and drills. I slowly would acquire tools as I made money from selling projects. I would take that money and then invest it back into newer tool or better tools to help me diversify what I could do. You can check out my tools page and see what tools I have now.
